why utah smiles partnered with Standout

Dear Tanner and Standout,
Thank you for discussing with me the possibility of joining forces to expand the reach of your miraculous film Standout. As we have discussed, one of the more difficult aspects of helping kids with clefts and other facial differences is trying to help them develop a healthy self-image and self-confidence. Despite the obvious effects these kids suffer with having a facial difference, they also deal with fear of medical treatments and surgical PTSD. The emotional needs and emotional healing of these kids are great.
We have seen the positive effects that media has when portraying people with facial differences. The movie Wonder was shown to elevate the self-image of affected children and decrease bullying at their schools when the movie was shown to a high percentage of the student body. Standout is one of the most powerful films I have ever seen and has a story and a message that can help every person who was born with a facial difference. It also has the power to change the hearts and perspectives of those who weren’t and decrease insensitivities and bullying.
Once of the missions of the Utah Smiles Foundation is to take care of the entire child, physically, mentally, and psychologically. We see the power the film has, and the potential it has to change the world for those born with a facial difference. We would like to do whatever we can to get this film in front of every person in America and hopefully the world. As part of our mission to take care of the souls of our patients, we would appreciate it if you would allow us to help you in increasing the audience of your life changing film. Please let me know the next steps and how we can be helpful.
Every person with a facial difference needs to see this movie and every person who knows someone with a facial difference needs to see it twice.
Thank you,

Dr. Devan Griner, MD Pediatric Craniofacial Surgeon
